Lorenzo Cruciani

After studying Physics in Rome and Groningen, I pursued a Ph.D. in Amsterdam, where I studied the generation of terahertz electromagnetic radiation. I worked with short laser pulses (down to 0.00000000005 seconds long, therefore ULTRA-short, as they are called in the field!) used to trigger non-linear optical processes in metals. Throughout my studies, the biology/biophysics world was always the alternative I wanted to explore, and the CrestOptics website was on my browser’s bookmarks bar for quite some time as a potential career option.

Luckily, after finishing my Ph.D. at the end of 2024, an Optical Engineer position opened up in the R&D team, and I was able to join! Since November 2024, I have been focusing on the development of our Brillouin microscopy system, which has allowed me to learn a technique that was completely new to me and step into the biophysics field.

In my free time, I enjoy reading books (classics like Marcel Proust’s “In Search of Lost Time” and Thomas Mann’s “The Magic Mountain” are among my favorites) and going for long walks in the mountains of central Italy.
